{"id":1835,"date":"2022-11-11T08:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-11-11T08:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.socasailing.org.uk\/?p=1835"},"modified":"2022-12-08T09:27:06","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T09:27:06","slug":"november-2022-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.socasailing.org.uk\/?p=1835","title":{"rendered":"November 2022 Meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1837 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.socasailing.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Cruising-Association-logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"132\" height=\"130\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>November meeting <\/strong>at the <strong>RNA W G City<\/strong> was given in person by <strong>Jeremy Batch<\/strong> from the <strong>Cruising Association. <br \/><\/strong>The topic was :- <br \/><strong>Going boldly: across, beneath and beyond the ocean by Jeremy Batch.<br \/><br \/><\/strong>The meeting was very well attended and included some external guests from a local diving club.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy provided a very high tech and entertaining presentation that gave the answers to the following questions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>What sort of lifejackets did the ancient Egyptians wear, <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>and what did the Inuit carry on the back of their kayaks? <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>How did the Assyrians manage to swim in full armour <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>and when did we first learn to breathe underwater? <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>How have we (almost) overcome scurvy? <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>How did the shipworm help Marc Brunel drive a tunnel under the Thames? <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>How did the tomato worm and the Playtex company help 12 men to walk on the moon <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>and what will the next generation of space suits and diving suits look like?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The November meeting at the RNA W G City was given in person by Jeremy Batch from the Cruising Association.
